Gynecology & Family Planning

Midwives were the first health practitioners and have historically served as community healthcare providers. Today, licensed midwives in New York State have the great privilege of being able to provide gynecologic and primary healthcare services to women and anyone assigned female at birth, throughout the life cycle. Rose is pleased to offer gynecologic and family planning care at the Family Life Center. What does this look like in the midwifery model of care?

·       Annual visits are an hour long and address each patient’s individual, holistic needs. These needs may range from routine health maintenance to pregnancy planning or prevention to perimenopause and menopause changes to gender affirmation and beyond. This is patient-centered care.

·       Principles of trauma-informed care are interwoven with the informed consent process, which is ongoing throughout every exam and procedure.

·       Healthcare guidelines and standards of care are reviewed, counseling and education are ongoing and shared decision making is used to create personalized care plans.

·       Routine health screenings (Paps, blood work, physical exams, etc) can be performed and evidence-based treatments prescribed as needed.

·       Problem visits for issues such as urinary tracts infections (UTIs), sexually transmitted infections and primary care concerns for established patients can be shorter in some cases.

·       Family planning services include fertility counseling, in-home insemination (IUI), contraceptive management, and early pregnancy termination (medication abortion).

·       Collaboration with complimentary healthcare practitioners and referral out for higher levels of care, when needed.

A note about insurance:

At this time, Rose is not in-network with any insurance companies, therefore GYN and family planning services are cash pay. Acknowledging that this makes this form of care inaccessible for some, we are operating under the reality that insurance companies do not adequately reimburse in-network providers, and we would not be able to provide this model of care at their rates. In an effort to equalize this situation, we are committed to transparency in pricing, and funds may be available to subsidize low-income and uninsured patients. Please inquire further.
